Program description
In cooperation with the Senate Department for Culture and Community, the Marzahn-Hellersdorf district office of Berlin offers creative Berlin musicians and music groups the opportunity to carry out their own productions in a professionally equipped recording studio, subject to available capacities. The recordings resulting from the support are freely available to the artists for further use.
All Berlin musicians or music groups who can be identified as belonging to one of these different stylistic forms can apply for a recording appointment in the recording studio of the Hans-Werner-Henze Music School in Marzahn-Hellersdorf: Jazz, Popular Music or World Music.
The funding is intended to give the artists concerned the opportunity to apply to promoters, labels, publishers, etc. with a new, professional studio production. The resulting recordings are freely available to the musicians for further use. They can be used as demos as well as for publications on recordings or on the Internet.
Information about the recording studio:
The recording studio is a facility of the Hans-Werner-Henze Music School Marzahn-Hellersdorf. It is located in the building of the Volkshochschule Marzahn-Hellersdorf and is easily accessible by public transport. If you come by car, you can use the existing parking facilities and a loading zone. The recording studio has a floor space of approx. 130 m² and consists of:
- a large recording room (approx. 54 m²)
- two separate recording booths of equal size (approx. 7 m² each)
- two smaller recording rooms (approx. 24 m² each)
- and a control room
The studio has a very large and prominent selection of high-quality brand-name microphones. (e.g. AKG, Beyerdynamic, Brauner, DPA, EV, Microtech Gefell, Neumann, Royer, Schoeps, Sennheiser, Shure etc.) In addition, the following equipment is available for free use by the users:
- Grand piano: C. Bechstein Pianoforte AG Berlin (Model B)
- Piano: J. Schiller Piano- und Flügelfabrik Berlin
- Piano: Carl Rönisch Pianofortemanufaktur Leipzig (115 T)
- Stage piano: Kawai MP8 II
- Drum kit: Gretsch Broadkaster SB Jazz (shell set with BD 18x14, TT 12x08, ST 14x14 / without SN and without cymbals).
- Guitar amp: Tube combo Fender 65 Deluxe Reverb
Optionally, it is also possible to realize video recordings. For this purpose, a range of professional film and photo equipment is available. (various cameras, lighting, gimbal, etc.) The details of this can be requested in the studio.
Scope/Timeframe/Modes of Use:
The shooting scope can be either 30 or 60 hours. Therefore, please be sure to also indicate in the application form under point 3 (project description) whether the application is for 30 or for 60 hours. The recordings are usually spread over a period of one week (30 hours = 5 working days / Mon. - Fri.) or two weeks (60 hours = 10 working days / Mon. - Fri.). No admission operation is possible on weekends (Sat. + Sun.). Any other arrangements must be agreed with the studio management.
For the use of the studio, a financial contribution is to be paid in advance to the owner of the recording studio. The fee for the recording period of 30 hours amounts to a total of 206.00 € or 406.00 € for the scope of 60 hours and is to be transferred to the Hans-Werner-Henze-Musikschule upon conclusion of the contract. Required material costs for storage media/sound carriers are to be paid by the users in any case. When using the studio's own keyboard instruments, the costs incurred for any necessary tuning must also be planned for.
